The power of introverts | Susan Cain

In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.

  • The fact that in classrooms there are groups of desks and kids are expected to do group projects very well with little disagreement really ticks me off because usually when we're assigned a group project my group just all goes downhill and I'm the one doing all the work and everyone else is just following me like I'm the mama goose and they're my little goslings, and other times when we're doing group projects I just do it all by myself because "I work better when I'm alone." and I usually get a better grade than my group.

  • I hate it when some people ask me “can you speak” or “say hello, I’ve never heard you speak”
Like maybe I just don’t wanna talk to you.

  • As a teacher it was very difficult to get kids to work independently. I think they have gone to the extreme for constant group interaction. I rarely assigned group work, or made it more a matter of choice so that independent workers need not have to feel compelled to do the group-step. This was frowned upon in grad school as well, where teachers in training were forced to participate in group projects, constantly. Nice to hear someone else promoting the value of independent reflection .

  • Introvert doesn’t mean we don’t think and have a feeling but it’s just we think ourselves and don’t feel necessarily to share with others..

  • I have a pretty creative mind especially when writing (stories, essays, articles, etc) because it comes directly from my mind and how I imagined but being an introvert and speaking in detail about what I think scares me because I fear that what goes in my mind is not what I will be able to say or express….does anyone get me??

  • Introverts: yes, I can see some people (extroverts) are different. I accept this fact and understand that's just how they are. And respect them and our differences.

Extroverts: OMFG BBQ PEOPLE IS JUST INTROVERT BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW YET HOW GOOD IT IS TO ACT IN THE CORRECT WAY (being extrovert). I HAVE TO TALK TO THEM ALL THE TIME UNTIL THEY GET IT AND EVOLVE!!!1!1! I HAVE TO PUSH THEM NONSTOP UNTIL THEY SEE THE LIGHT!!1!1!

  • I grew up with no friends until mid years of middle school and ending it in my junior year in high school.
I was isolated mostly from other kids and drew a lot of stuff from how dinosaurs mightve looked like to nature itself. I was a very excellent kid that I received a nomination awards from an Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists in 2017 for I passed in math and sciences.
I, too, hate the group desk idea for I constantly get in trouble for making tiny doodles in my notebook. I got in total of 12 parent meetings for my teachers got concerned of me not making any social contact, not asking questions like other kids, and drawing too much.
I didnt NEED to ask questions and felt a but forced that I fully understood all subjects and assignments and got up between 70s and 80s and rarely 90s.
After my terrible years of elementary, my father fully understood that i was having problems getting along every student who were talkative and such and i was a VERY quiet and well behaved kid too. I dont get into trouble a lot and I love the calmness of the world. For being too isolated for many years, I came up with a comic idea 4 years ago and managed to get a bf too. But of course I told him im very solitaire person but he was fine with it.
Being an introvert is wierd but we all have great skills like i have a very self taught skill into visual arts and singing.

  • She's an intellectual, not a Rationalist (Introvert). Introverts don't enjoy reading books together so we can take pleasure in the presence of another. It's impractical. The pleasure is in sharing each other's thoughts on these books among other topics. Introversion is a learning style, not a life style. Introspective Learning. We learn to improve our common sense knowledge, not to create new Archetypes to divide humanity and subsequently create all kind of sufferings rooted in tribalism. That's what the Extrovert (Imperialists) does. Their philosophy is grounded in Egotism and it's impractical, because you can't evolve the human specie by simply changing personalities (spirits). That's what Religions thought in the bronze age and their mindset has subverted into multiple philosophies since then and these mindset has plagued the culture, and even government.

The intellectuals are Extrovert disguised as Introvert. They hadn't decide which side they want to be on, whether to corrupt their natural conscience and go with the Imperialists, or stick with what has worked before in creating a balance world (public services) through Pragmatism.

Get Egotism out of Government and you will solve all world problems. Every governmental overreach is rooted in irrational behaviors.

  • i want to marry Susan Cain. i wish that my very extroverted mother had not kept putting pressure on me, an extreme introvert, to be extroverted like she was. far worse is my boss at work, who follows me around, never leaves me alone, finds endless excuses to pick on me, violates my space constantly, never gives me time to think, even interrupts my lunchtime
